Ravenswood, Chicago 60640
Renovation and rehabilitation have taken precedence over raze and ruin in family-oriented Ravenswood, which is filled with wonderful vintage buildings and multi-unit apartment complexes. The East Ravenswood Historic District (bounded by Lawrence Avenue/ Irving Park Road/ Ravenswood Street), one of Chicago’s first planned communities, has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today you’ll find carefully rehabbed Victorian homes and two- and three-flat brick buildings. Many apartments in Ravenswood have been converted into condos, and many older homes, prized for their oversized lots, have been sold as tear-downs. Unsurprisingly, young professionals have discovered the leafy area and are thought to be the driving force behind the real estate boom here.
