One of the oldest and wealthiest areas in Chicago, the Gold Coast is home to the famed Magnificent Mile shopping district, along with the Rush and Division entertainment district. Chicago's number one tourist attraction, Navy Pier, also resides in this neighborhood. Navy Pier boasts a Ferris wheel, carousel, IMAX theater, and plenty of shops and restaurants. Navy Pier also has a Children's Museum with enough activities and exhibits to keep children entertained for hours.
Gold Coast residents find little reason to own a car, as public transportation makes the area easily accessible. The Red Line has stops throughout the neighborhood, along with several bus lines. One of the most exclusive and expensive areas in Chicago, the housing in the Gold Coast consists of extravagant mansions, greystones, brownstones, and high-rises, along with both vintage and modern condominiums.
